Two days. 8 hours of driving. 15+ hours in the gym. A strained voice. A broken paint bucket drum. 2 wins, 1 loss (very close game).

My time to watch my kids play ball is short. I am here for it all. What a pleasure it is to see them do something they love.

This guy. He wasn’t always an easy man to love. He made terribly inappropriate jokes to anyone and everyone. He was obsessed with winning the lottery. He was even more obsessed with getting a phd. He watched both black & white westerns and Naked & Afraid. He’s the only man I know who had 5 open heart bypass surgeries and also 5 wives over the years. He called me baby even when I turned 45. He loved me fiercely, in whatever ways he knew how.

Dad, you’ll be missed. I’m glad to know your heart is whole again. We love you.

This is Miss B. She came to us in a bit of a whirlwind on Thanksgiving weekend. She is exactly what we needed.

Her temperament couldn’t be more chill. She doesn’t bark. She has brought peace and calm to our home. She wants to play with Carol (the cat) even though Carol isn’t there yet.

We just took her on an overnight sports trip. She was a perfect companion.

I think sometimes we stay in a situation that isn’t quite right, even though all the signs are there that a change is needed. Sometimes the change is small and easily implemented. Sometimes it is drastic and complicated. Listen to your gut. Pray. Ask your trusted people for advice. Seek counselling.

It seems a bit silly saying all that after talking about a dog. But it really is an analogy for life. Fraya created a lot of stress. We did all the things we could, including giving time. The relief we felt after making the decision made the answer even clearer.

Change is hard, but there is, indeed, light at the end of the tunnel.

October is almost over. For me, it’s a month where I feel empowered to share my story, celebrate my health, and invite others into awareness.

I found myself looking back over my old blog today. My words were so raw, so real. Inspired by those old posts, I thought I’d share a little insight into how it feels, as a woman, to go through chemo.

My post today is a quote from New Years, 2015. I felt beautiful, and had a great time at a wedding we attended. I danced, laughed, and enjoyed the evening. Then, I saw the pictures. The beauty I felt disappeared. Being bald, swollen from drugs, and so pale made me look sick. It is hard to hide all that, and it really affected me emotionally.

I share this so you understand how someone you know, going through chemo, might feel. Not only is your body being ravaged by the drugs, your health hanging in the balance, but your sense of self is even affected. Who am I while I look like this? Is the “old me” still in there somewhere?

We have come to the difficult decision to find a new home for our sweet pup. We have tried for nearly 2 years to make it work, but it just isn’t happening. We are all stressed and it isn’t good for any of us

Today is our last day with her before I drive her to her new home. I am praying that it is a good fit and they love her, craziness and all.

It is my last day of summer freedom. I’m choosing to do whatever floats my boat. Literally…started the day off with a paddle in my kayak.

One of my favourite things about summer is the availability of fresh fruit and veggies—and having the time to invest in creative cooking.

I got some plums from a church friend, found a recipe on Pinterest, and made cardamom plum sorbet! It is tart and fresh and tastes exactly like summer.

Here’s to the fleeting days of August.

Yesterday we celebrated 21 years married. We’re entering a new phase of life: busy teens. This means we’re spending more time doing things together, alone.

It’s fun to see that after all this time we still enjoy each other’s company so much.

I learn best from people. And Ashley & Chris have been teaching me since I was 18. I still use the backpack @chrisclcampbell bought me in China, circa 1999.

Ashley’s book, I’ve Never Been Here Before, is a gem. It isn’t just about traveling. It is about family, and stepping into the unknown, about living a dream. Pretty much. I drove 1.5 hours today for a meeting that lasted 10 minutes. BUT, I chose today for the trip because the best donut and coffee shop was open en route (shout out to Mountain Barn in Creston).

I also stopped at a fabulous produce stand & a little South African meat shop. I love days like this. Sunny, beautiful scenery, and the freedom to do whatever my little heart desires. All with a good cup of coffee.

Finally crossed hiking Mt. Loki off my bucket list. It did not disappoint! The end of the hike was pretty technical (and a bit scary). The views were incredible.

To all my friends that have ever felt like too much, this is for you. Lord knows that I am a lot. I have been reminded of that many times over in my life. Called names because I am a direct woman, because I have strong boundaries, because I step into the fray and fight for justice. #enneagram8women

Listen, as I age it has become more and more clear…having a small circle of people who fully embrace who you are is better than trying to win over a crowd of haters.

I am not everyone’s cup of tea and that is ok with me. I am so thankful to have good friends and a. loving family who “get” me.

If people in your circle make you feel like you’re too much. Evaluate: do some self-reflecting and decide if you actually should make a change (because Lord also knows there is always room to grow), or if you need to shift your circle.

I love how much I am, and I love how much you are, too. ❤️

This has been a week of forced rest. I got a stomach bug late Sunday night that knocked me out, and now I have some sort of head cold. So, I rest. Hoping to be rejuvenated and ready soon!

I tried something new today. It has been a joy to have three days to essentially do whatever I want, free from responsibilities or obligations.

It has been the perfect reset for me to return home and step back into all the “doing” that waits for me.

So thankful.
